The .PL domain is 28 years old

Exactly 28 years ago, on 30 July 1990, IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), an organization managing top-level domains, established the .pl national domain.

The first names in the .pl domain appeared in 1991 and were associated with the pioneering academic and scientific activity in the field of Internet communication. NASK, which has been the .pl domain registry since 1992, developed from this community. Eighteen years after the .pl domain was registered, there were one million names registered with this extension, and at the beginning of 2011, two million. Currently, there are almost 2.6 million names in the .pl domain, which places the Polish domain in the 6th place in Europe and in the 10th place in the world among country code Top Level Domains.

At the end of 2002, NASK established the NASK Partner Programme, thus enabling cooperation in the field of domain names registration and service to external entities, which will join it.

From the very beginning, the priority for NASK was the highest quality of services and the security of the .pl domain. As the first registry in the world NASK implemented a quality management system in conformity to the requirements of ISO 9001 standard. In 2012 NASK enabled the registrants of .pl domain names with the facility of securing  their names with the DNSSEC protocol, which increases the safety of using the DNS for Internet users. In May 2018, the .pl registry ranked the 4th position in Europe in relation to the number of domains secured with the DNSSEC protocol, which is a great success in providing registrants with highlevel of security of services provided.

The .pl registry is an active member of CENTR (Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries) and closely cooperates with the organization coordinating the functioning of the Internet worldwide - ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
