NASK PIB increases security and efficiency of the DNS service for the .pl domain.
The .pl domain registry at NASK increases security and efficiency of the DNS service for .pl domain by extending the network of anycast DNS thanks to cooperation with successive global providers of this service.
Since August 2019, anycast DNS service has been provided for the national .pl domain by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) with its registered office in Ottawa and since September also by ipcom GmbH, a subsidiary of nic.at with its registered office in Salzburg. Both service providers are, at the same time, country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registry operators, Canadian .ca and Austrian .at respectively.
The Anycast cloud consists of multiple DNS (Domain Name System) servers scattered geographically but having the same IP address. A query for an IP address of a specific domain name is routed to the geographically closest DNS server of the anycast cloud. The result of such a solution is shortening the response time to queries about the .pl domain name address and increasing the resistance of the domestic Internet to DDoS attacks.
The .pl domain registry at NASK has its own cloud of anycast DNS as well as cooperates with several global providers of this service.
